The Lightroom mobile team are on a roll. They’ve just released yet another set of major updates to both the iOS and Android apps.

Want to get up to speed quickly? I’ve already updated my Mobile Infographics, so they’re available to download from this page.

iOS

  • Selective Brush
    • With the new selective brush, you can use your finger or an Apple Pencil to “paint” edits onto specific areas of the photo. If you’re using an Apple Pencil on an iPad Pro, or a device with 3D Touch (iPhone 6S or later), it’s even pressure sensitive. This is a great example of where touch screens excel.
  • Detail panel
    • The Sharpening and Noise Reduction sliders are now available in the new Detail tab. See the infographics for more details on how to use each slider, and don’t forget to double-tap on the photo to zoom into 1:1 view for accuracy.
  • Camera clipping warnings
    • Want to make sure you’re not clipping the highlights? Tap the … button then the triangle to show zebra lines on clipped highlights.
  • New iPad Interface
    • The iPad has a new updated interface, with the same slider groupings used on the iPhone. The buttons down the right hand side switch between Edit, Info & Activity views. The swipe up/down gestures to flag/star photos is currently missing, but I’m assured this is only temporary.

Android

  • Complete Rewrite
    • Adobe has rewritten the whole app to make it faster and fully Android-native.
  • New Modern Interface
    • The Android version has now gained the new modern interface that first appeared on the iPhone a few months ago. This includes:
      • The Organize view, where you organize your photos into collections.
      • The Grid view, where you can view thumbnails and filter to hide some photos.
      • The Rate & Review mode, for flagging and starring photos.
      • The Info mode, which allows you to add Title and Caption
      • The Edit mode, with its full set of sliders and linear/radial filters.

Visit the App Store (iOS) / Play Store (Android) to download the updates right now, and don’t forget to download your updated infographics. The mobile blog series continues on Monday.
