Lightroom Classic 9.2 has been released today. As well as bug fixes and new camera/lens support, the engineering team have spent this release cycle focusing on some long-term requests and other enhancements.
The entire Lightroom cloud-based ecosystem has also been updated today too.
Custom Defaults
The old defaults system has been completely replaced by a new one in Lightroom Classic 9.2. Note that old defaults aren’t carried over, so if you use custom defaults, you’ll need to recreate them.
The new defaults are found in the Preferences > Presets tab.
You can stick with Adobe’s default settings, or you can automatically apply a preset of your choice to all new photos, without having to remember to select it in the Import dialog.
Alternatively, if you like to use your camera’s picture styles when you’re shooting, for example, your camera’s B&W setting, Lightroom can now recognize the picture style you used and apply the matching camera profile.
Different defaults can be set for each camera you own, or you can use the same default setting for all new raw photos.
You will notice that different defaults by ISO are no longer natively supported, as Lightroom’s noise reduction has improved and they’re generally no longer needed. However, if you do need iso-specific defaults, a solution is described in this month’s Missing FAQ book update.
PSB file support
A long-standing request has been for PSB files (Photoshop files that exceed the PSD limit of 2Gb) to be catalogued in Lightroom. These can now be imported as long as they’re under Lightroom’s maximum dimensions (not greater than 65,000px long edge and no more than 512 MP).
Auto Sync button
It’s easy to forget that Auto Sync is turned on and accidentally apply a Develop edit to multiple photos, so the Auto Sync button is now highlighted when it’s enabled.
Multiple Monitors
Another long-requested feature: If you’re using 3 or more monitors, you can now select the screen to use as Lightroom’s secondary monitor in Preferences > Display.
Export Dialog Updates
As well as Export and Cancel, a third option has now been added to the Export dialog. Done will save any export settings you’ve changed without exporting photos at the same time.
GPU Updates
Full acceleration is now applied for AMD GPU’s when Auto GPU is selected for macOS 10.14.5 or later.
Enhance Details can now make use of eGPU’s on macOS Catalina.

Bug fixes:
As usual this release also includes bug fixes. Adobe only publishes the ones that were reported by users.
- Warn users when trying to open multiple files at once in Photoshop.
- Face tagging suggestions appear twice and incorrect entries are not removed.
- Fixed preset preview issues.
- Lightroom Classic preset preview does not respect image orientation.
- IPTC Extension collapsible fields (Location Shown, Location Created) do not retain data.
- Error creating virtual copies.
- Book Module: Export to PDF hangs/never completes; some pages are blank
- Metadata preset doesn’t always set Altitude correctly
- Metadata panel truncates, rather than rounds, GPS coordinates at thousandths of a second
- Post processing disappearing from Export window when checking presets

How do I update?
To update, go to Help menu > Updates or click the Update button in the CC app. The update servers take a while to push the updates around the world, to avoid overloading the servers. You can also open the Creative Cloud app, click the … icon (top right) and select Check for Updates to give it a nudge.
